Blizzard Time @ the Spalliera

Vandetta

Vandetta’s foray into the world of music and entertainment began when she fronted one of Singapore’s most successful bands, Urban Xchange, releasing several albums and receiving a nomination at the 2002 MTV Asia Music Awards. She became a household name after her stint as a DJ at Singapore’s #1 youth station, 987FM, later leaving to embark on her debut solo effort. Her first single “Fly” off her EP of the same name, received positive reviews from influential media such as Pitchfork, MTV Iggy and the LA Weekly.

Stopgap
Stopgap

Singaporean indie rock outfit Stopgap will be performing for the first time this year at Christmas Wonderland. The award-winning quintet has appeared on the line-ups of a multitude of shows and music festivals in Singapore, winning the Noise Singapore Award in 2013. Since the release of their debut full-length album Totems in 2015, the band has went on to tour in Chennai and Bangalore as well as Melbourne.

Alemay Fernandez

Alemay is known for her sultry tone, powerhouse vocals and an onstage presence that keeps the audience eating out of the palm of her hand. Her album of originals "Hard To Imagine" launched to a sold-out concert at the Esplanade in July 2016 and received rave reviews. Since then, she has toured the album in Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Colombo, Hanoi as well as a recent U.S. tour this summer 2017 where she headlined at the legendary Birdland Jazz Club in NY. When she's not on stage, she's shaping the next generation of vocal performers at Lasalle College Of The Arts and hosting the "All That Jazz" radio programme on Symphony 92.4 FM in Singapore.

JAWN X TIM DE COTTA

JAWN is a soulful and multi-talented singer-songwriter from Singapore, fascinating audiences with his signature voice and heartfelt performances. Since his debut in late 2015, he’s played some of the biggest blues and folk festivals in the region, including Byron Bay Bluesfest, Melbourne Music Week, and Queenscli Music Festival.
Tim De Cotta is a vocalist, bassist, songwriter and producer who believes in keeping his art pure. Styled in R&B and HipHop, Tim draws influences from artists such as Maxwell, John Legend, Common and Mos Def while styling his bass-playing after the likes of Derrick Hodge and Stuart Zender. Having played with various bands, Tim’s music career constantly gets his hands dirty in musical diversity, pushing the boundaries in writing and production with current bands such as TAJ, L.A.B, neoDominatrix and Kilo Habit.
The duo will be performing a special collaboration set at Christmas Wonderland this year.

Hidhir
Hidhir

Influenced by icons such as the Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and Foo Fighters, Hidhir started singing and playing the guitar since he was 12.

Since getting his first resident gig at a young age of 19, Hidhir has been performing every weekend at Going OM, a bar situated along the bustling streets of Haji Lane. In 2013, he went on a tour in Malaysia with a band called The Lost Hats, filling the role of lead guitarist.

Formerly known as Take Two, M1LDL1FE cuts across the indie-pop grain, weaving together lush electronic textures and eclectic dance grooves into the pop sensibilities of guitar-driven indie music of the early 2000s. They debuted their first EP, “PAIRS” in 2015, receiving critical acclaim from the local press and were slated to be “one of the most exhilarating new acts to emerge from the burgeoning indie-pop scene”. In 2017, following the departure of guitarist Johnathan Lim, the quartet rechristened themselves M1LDL1FE. Armed with a fresh and grittier sonic palette, the band released their eponymous EP in July, followed by a sold out EP Launch show in Aug.

Christmas Carols
 

Beautiful melodies and vocals will add to the magical atmosphere of Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay. Set amidst the SuperTrees, the Cassa Armonica, an eight-metre tall beautifully illuminated gazebo, will play host to caroling by Singapore’s acclaimed choir and a cappella groups during the festival period.

The Pei Chun Chorale comprises choristers from Primary 3 to Primary 6. It is a 60-member strong group of choristers, bonded together by sheer enthusiasm and a common love for choral singing. The choir has participated in many performances and has won numerous awards for the school. Every time members take the stage, they blossom with more discipline, confidence, humility and mindfulness.

GMS(S) Choir a.k.a. The GEMs Chorale
GMS(S) Choir (a.k.a. The GEMs Chorale)

The GEMs Chorale is proud to achieve the Certificate of Distinction at the biennial Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging / Arts Presentation for Choirs in 2017. Alongside that, their performance at the Singapore International Youth Festival 2016 acquired a Silver Diploma award, topping the highest score among the Silver awardees.

GEMs Chorale aim to stretch their members’ potential and ensure that they have an enriching and enjoyable time at choir to develop their talent to the fullest, striving to create a strong bond amongst the members and to appreciate the beauty of singing through different learning experiences in the choir. Furthermore, GEMs Chorale hope their singing will bless and bring happiness to those listening.

Hwa Chong Voices
Hwa Chong Voices

Hwa Chong Voices, the alumni choir of Hwa Chong Institution is a place for alumni choristers to learn, sing, and deepen their friendships. Apart from annual carols at the Fullerton and Fullerton Bay Hotels, the choir also regularly puts up public concerts, most recently being “An Evening with Voices 2016” held at the Esplanade Recital Studio. This year, Hwa Chong Voices participated in the 4th Singapore International Choral Festival and emerged as champion in the Mixed Voice Open category.

At Christmas Wonderland, the choir will be presenting a few popular Christmas songs to spread some Yuletide cheer. These popular classics include Jingle Bell Rock, It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, and Joy to the World. The choir will be conducted by Mr. Lee Kun Won and Mr. Loh Wei Kiat.

VOCO Singapore Ladies Choir
VOCO Singapore Ladies Choir

Founded in August 2014 by Singaporean conductor-composer Darius Lim, VOCO Singapore Ladies Choir is an independent all-female adult choir dedicated to finding and spreading the essence of Singaporean and Asian music and exploring new music of the world.

The choir aims to reach out to both professional singers and musicians as well as passionate amateurs eager to discover new experiences through music-making and develop a deeper understanding of the nation’s cultural heritage.

In the three years since its inception, the choir has collaborated and shared the stage with the renowned Philomela (Finland), winner of the 2014 World Choir Games (Female Chamber Choir) and given three annual concerts, each time featuring new works by its conductor, as well as a trio of songs by Singaporean composer Dick Lee last year.

In June 2016, the choir embarked on their first Europe tour, where they travelled to give concerts in Amsterdam, Kraków, London, Great Rissington and Cardiff. During the tour, the choir also participated in the 2016 Cracovia Cantans International Kraków Choir Festival in Kraków, Poland and was awarded 2nd Prize in the Chamber Choirs Category. In London, the choir shared the stage with the University of London Chamber Choir and their Director Dr Colin Durrant.

It is with delight that the choir is performing for the Christmas Wonderland organised by the Gardens by The Bay.

Dunman High School Choir
Dunman High School Choir

The Dunman High School Choir consists of members from the Senior High section as well as Alumni Choir members.

Under the guidance of their conductor, Ms Jennifer Tham and assistant conductor, Mr Albert Tay, the choir has come a long way in the enchanting world of choral music by exploring works of different genres and eras, performing pieces ranging from renaissance music to musicals. Their efforts have led them in attaining Distinction at the 2015 Singapore Youth Festival, as well as two Gold B awards at the 2017 Asia Cantate Choral Festival in the Mixed Voices Open and Folklore categories.

Hwa Chong Choir
HCI Choir

The HCI Choir comprises passionate choristers from the Hwa Chong Institution (College section). With excellence in music-making as its chief goal, the choir has successfully performed in numerous concerts and events such as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in 2010.

Currently under the baton of conductor Ms Lim Ai Hooi, HCI Choir has garnered top local and international awards. The choir attained consecutive Gold with Honours awards at the biennial Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging of Choirs from 2005 to 2011, and the Certificate of Distinction at the SYF Arts Presentation in 2013, 2015 and 2017. In 2008, the choir won two Gold medals at the 5th World Choir Games in Graz, Austria and emerged as the World Choir Games Champion in the Mixed Choir category. The choir also garnered the "Prix du Public" (Public Prize) and Second Prize in the Free Programme category at the 39th Florilege Vocal de Tours in France in 2010. In the same year, HCI Choir bagged two Gold medals and was also named Absolute Winner of the 38th Festival of Songs in Olomouc, Czech Republic. In 2012, the choir attained the First prize cum Laude award at the 60th European Music Festival for Young People held in Neerpelt, Belgium, as well as Third prize in the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition held in Cork, Ireland in 2012. Together with the Nanyang Girls’ High School choir, the combined choir won three gold medals at the 8th World Choir Games held in Riga, Latvia in July 2014.

NTU CAC Choir
NTU CAC Choir

Established in 1989, the NTU Choir is a cosmopolitan singing group which aims to raise choral awareness among the varsity population as well as spread its members’ passion for music. Striving for choral excellence, they challenge themselves on both the international and local stage.

The choir has won many awards, two prizes from the 4th Internal Krakow Festival in 2013. A Gold diploma in the Under 24 category at 2014's first Singapore International Choral Festival and achieving two gold diplomas at the 5th International Anton Bruckner Choir Competition and Festival, Linz, Austria under the guidance of resident conductor, Mr Yong Chee Foon.

A club under the Nanyang Technological University’s Cultural Activities Club (CAC), they have also perform at school events such as the Freshmen Welcome Ceremony and Nanyang Arts Festival. Locally, the choir performs Christmas carolling as well as their annual concert, Cantemus (Latin for ‘let us sing’).

The VOCE Singapore Men's Choir

The VOCE Singapore Men’s Choir was founded in 2016 by local composer-conductor, Darius Lim. The 15-man choir consists of professional and amateur musicians, as well as passionate singers from a diverse range of musical backgrounds. One of the few all-male choirs in Singapore, VOCE has been recognized both locally and in the region for their unique blend and stylistic approach to their music.

NTU Choir Alumni

The NTU Choir Alumni made its performance debut in 2009 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Nanyang Technological University Choir. A platform for members of the main choir to pursue their love for choral singing after graduation, The Alumni continues to foster a close relationship with the main choir in many ways, from guest performing in the annual concert, Cantemus, to jointly competing in established choral competitions at home and abroad.

Both the NTU Choir and the Alumni are led by Mr Yong Chee Foon, who has more than a decade of experience being a choir conductor and vocal trainer. He continues to hone his craft and graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in July 2016 with a Master of Music in Choral Conducting.

It is not easy to form community arts groups in Singapore and so tonight is also a celebration for this ‘coming together’ of passions and voices that hopes to draw new meaning for themselves as young singers and for the art of choral music in Singapore.

HCI High School

The Hwa Chong Institution High School Choir was founded in 2003 as a vocal ensemble by a group of students who were deeply passionate about singing. Since then, it left a deep impression on the school populace by performing at various school functions. Currently, the choir stands with the strength of 20 choristers.

With a large repertoire of songs spanning various genres and languages, the choir has performed at several concerts. These include concerts hosted by Singapore Chinese Girls’ School Choir, Hwa Chong Junior College Choir, and Nanyang Girls’ High School Choir. Always excited to share their music, the choir has also hosted choirs such as Nanyang Junior College Choir, Chung Cheng High School (Main) Choir, St. Gabriel’s Secondary School Choir, and St. Margaret’s Secondary School Choir at the choir’s SOAR concert series in 2011, 2013, and 2014. The choir has also performed with large orchestras at Hwa Chong’s 95th Anniversary Celebration Gala.

Interested in broadening their horizons, the choir went for their first overseas CIP experience in 2009 to Vietnam, and in 2011, they went for their first overseas choral exchange in Taiwan. Through their exchanges, they found precious opportunities to share Singapore’s choral culture to the rest of the world.

The choir continually strives for excellence and has attained top awards in prestigious choral competitions. The choir attained Gold awards in 2007 and 2011 and highest available Certificate of Distinction in 2013 and 2015 at the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation for Choirs. In the Singapore International Choral Festival, the choir achieved the top score for a boys’ choir, achieving a Gold Diploma in Category A2. Recently, the choir has also held combined concerts with our school’s String Orchestra, as well as participated in various combined performances, such as Supernova, which was held by ACSI. Not only that, we have also performed during the Huayi festival this year.

The Choir also seeks to contribute to the community and have multiple performances at hospitals and homes, spreading the love and joy of singing to the public.

Today, the choir looks forward to singing and sharing their passion for music at this wonderful venue yet again. It is their sincerest wish that their singing may be a blessing to all.
