Beside performing in our very own concerts, the biannual SiNGerS, we have also performed in our school’s Jubilate over the years. We also take part in competitions such as the Singapore Youth Festival, achieving gold-with-honours and certificates of distinctions every year since 2007, and the Singapore International Choral Festival in which we clinched a Silver Diploma this year. We also give back to the community by taking part in the Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Art of Healing performances to share the joy of singing with the hospital community. We helped to spread the festive cheer of Christmas by carolling at Gardens by the Bay, the Paragon and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Together as a choir, we have forged many friendships and overcome many challenges under the guidance of our talented conductor Ms Lim Ai Hooi and our dedicated teachers-in-charge.

CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace Choir
CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace Choir

The choir of CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace has been one of the pioneering CCAs since the school was established in 1955. These young choristers come together with a strong passion and love for singing. Some of them join the choir as early as in Primary Two and all the choristers work together with their fellow peers of different age groups. They love to be part of that one majestic voice that comes when their voices open. They train hard under the astute tutelage of their choir instructor, Ms Angila Tan, who continuously set higher standards for them as they learn and perform songs of different language and culture, widening their repertoire and executing deeper and more impactful melodies to the audience.

The choir has participated numerous competitions and were also invited to do public performances. We have been continuously obtaining distinction award in the Singapore Youth Festival competitions. This year was no exception as we won the distinction award in the 2016 SYF competition. In 2015, the choir also received the gold award at the Singapore International Choral Festival. Such competitive platforms give the choristers a sense of direction, purpose and goal when they train as they practise the virtues of diligence and teamwork to do their best.

Apart from competitions, the choir was also invited to bring some musical cheer to the public when the choristers were invited to perform at the Marina Bay Promenade –Rhythms@Sunset in 2014. The choir was part of the school’s CCA Performing Arts to liven the atmosphere with their talents for singing. In addition, they were also invited to use their voices to touch the hearts and bring joy to the less fortunate such as those in Bethany Methodist Nursing Homes.

CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace choristers will continue to work hard to enchant and touch the hearts of everyone through their gifts of singing.

The Youth Choir
The Youth Choir

It’s all in the name..

And so we call ourselves The Youth Choir
No fancy nouns, just straight-up, pure and simple,
a reflection of who we are and what we do.

If you have not heard about us before,
it is because we are a newly formed chorus
made up of young choral music enthusiasts from Singapore.

The Choir is set up to present a new platform
for young singers to continue their exploration
after their experiences with local school choirs.

The Youth Choir is a newly formed ensemble of young singers with a passion for choral music and singing. It is not easy to form community arts groups in Singapore and so tonight is also a celebration for this ‘coming together’ of passions and voices that hopes to draw new meaning for themselves as young singers and for the art of choral music in Singapore.
